Club Azzurri Couple Awarded for Volunteerism

This summer the Sedgwick County Soccer Association Board of Directors honored Creighton and Jennifer Maxwell with the Les Longhauser Memorial Award.

Since 2006, Jennifer has held the position of Club Azzurri Treasurer, but has encompassed so much more as the need arises.  She has gathered registration materials for each fall and spring season in the same timeframe.  Since the Club Azzurri Youth Academy re-started in 2007, she has run the behind-the-scenes operations including registration, communications and any other distribution of information and/or materials.  Jennifer has also run the behind-the-scenes operations for the last 8 Azzurri tournaments including working with the Hutchinson community, hotels and managing the incoming registration process.    Creighton has been a significant behind-the-scenes worker as well.  Since 2006, he has been the Assistant Tournament Director for each Azzurri Tournament.  He has taken on painting fields, scheduling games, moving goals and managing the complex to prepare the facilities for events, including tournaments, games, training sessions and camps.

Creighton and Jennifer have been the biggest supporters of Club Azzurri and promoting the game of soccer throughout the Hutchinson area.   All of this is while both have full-time positions - Creighton at Retro Plasma (Valley Center) and Jennifer at First National Bank (Hutchinson).  They have been willing to step in and help wherever is needed in order to assure that youth continue to have a place learn and grow in the game of soccer. This includes the re-introduction of programs like a summer camp and a recreational Youth Academy for 4-8 year-olds. Without their help, Club Azzurri programs and Club Azzurri Tournaments and soccer in the Hutchinson area would not be where they are today.

The Les Longhauser award is presented annually by the S.C.S.A. Board (Wichita, KS) to the individual(s) that most exhibit the volunteer spirit that marked Les Longhauser's long involvement in Wichita area soccer.   Club Azzurri is a part of the Sedgwick County Soccer Association, which is affiliated with US Youth Soccer.
